There’s A Frog On The Porch
Updated February 2025
Personally I think travelling to Malaysia is one of the most underrated things to do in the region. The country is visited a lot but not nearly as much as other countries in Southeast Asia.
From the dense urban jungle of Kuala Lumpur to the pristine beaches of the Langkawi and Penang, and not to mention the delicious food. Malaysia has heaps to offer and is by far my favourite Country in South East Asia.
Malaysia is made up of two major areas – the mainland bordering Thailand and Singapore, and stretching across parts of Borneo. Borneo offers wild Orang-Utans, hikes through rainforests and marvel at the peak of Mount Kinabalu.
Ttravellers tend to breeze through Malaysia on their way to places like Thailand or Singapore. I’d encourage you not to make that same mistake.

Some Basic Information
ℹ️ ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: British nationals don’t need a visa to visit Malaysia. You will normally be given permission to stay for 3 months on arrival.
You must complete an electronic arrival card within 3 days of arrival.
ℹ️ CURRENCY: The Malaysian Ringit (RM)

ℹ️ CREDIT CARDS AND BANKS: ATMs are common place in almost every shopping street, with several ‘bureau de change’ around the city centre with almost every retailer accepting Mastercard and Visa. There is no fear of an establishment declining card payments.
ℹ️ WEATHER: There is no Hot and Cold season in Malaysia. Malaysia is hot, humid and often suffers from the mid-afternoon thunder shower due to the humidity. Quite often the showers relinquish as quick as they formed.
ℹ️ TIME DIFFERENCE: There is one time zone in Malaysia. If it is 12pm in London then it is 8pm in Kuala Lumpur (+8hrs).
