With over 17,000 islands Indonesia is the worlds largest island country and home to over 261 million people. With extremely inexpensive local food and reasonably priced accommodation, itโs no wonder Indonesia is a popular destination among so many travellers.
Once you have found a reasonably priced flight to get to Indonesia the country is easy to visit on a budget.

โน๏ธ ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: The vast majority of travellers can apply for a ‘visa on arrival’ when they land at a cost of IDR500,000 (US$35, GBยฃ28.30), providing your stay is under 30 days no visa is required. โน๏ธ CREDIT CARDS AND BANKS: ATMs are common place especially in and around Indonesia with several โbureau de changeโ around the town centre, with almost every retailer accepting Mastercard and Visa.
โน๏ธ WEATHER: The best time to visit Indonesia is April, to June and September, just before and just after high season. It is still dry season, it is slightly less humid, and room prices and villa rentals can be up to 50% cheaper than during high season. Many shops offer sales and promotions, restaurants are less crowded in those mid season months.
โน๏ธ TIME DIFFERENCE: There are three time zones across Indonesia: Western (Jakarta), Central (Bali) and Eastern (Maluku). If it is 12pm in London then in Western Indonesia it is +7hrs ahead (7pm), Central is +8hrs (8pm), and Eastern +9hrs (9pm).
โน๏ธ EATING OUT: Local food is extremely cheap, with street food costing under IDR10,000 (GBยฃ0.50). For an inexpensive meal at a local restaurant prices start around IDR14,000 (GBยฃ0.70). Western food is much more expensive but is still relatively affordable at around IDR125,000 IDR (GBยฃ6.50) for a meal and drink.
Fast food like McDonalds will cost around IDR45,000 (GBยฃ2.30). A beer at the bar will cost around IDR30,000 (GBยฃ1.50).
